Diagnosing broadband quality in the Pacific

The Pacific is a tough environment for ICTs. Small populations scattered across thousands of islands over one third of the earth’s surface. More or less the opposite of South Asia. But distance does not make the need for broadband less. One requires more access when one is far away. Since 2006, when I first came to the Pacific, lots of things have changed. Competition has been introduced, prices have come down, and new services are being offered. The current focus is, understandably on broadband.

We were able to pull together some indicative findings using the AT Tester in order to make a presentation that would engage the audience at the 5th Policy and Regulation Forum for the Pacific organized by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity. From the responses, it appears there is considerable support for a comprehensive study to be undertaken by PiRRC.
