International Womens Day: Is Innovation Sexist?

001-D41_5503090-D41_5537LIRNEasia CEO Helani Galpaya was invited to a panel discussion titled “Is Innovation Sexist” in celebration of International Women’s Day.  The event was held in Ottawa, Canada on the 8th of March, It was inaugurated by Celina R. Caesar-Chavannes, M.P., Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development

The panelists at the event were Dr. Nozipho Motsa, University of Zululand; Dr. Cecilia Rocha, Director of the School of Nutrition, Ryerson University; and Tabitha Gathoni Mundia, 2009 Alumni of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, and was moderated by Rachel Vincent from the Nobel Women’s Initiative.  

Helani’s interventions drew from LIRNEasia research related to gender gaps in mobile ownership and Internet use, MIDO’s experiences with gender gaps in Bar Camps and Tech Camps in Myanmar, and RIA’s research on gender gaps in mobile money use.
