Puree Sirasoontorn, PhD

Puree is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, at the Thammasat University of Thailand. She has extensive experience in energy policy and regulations in Thailand.  She has been involved in research projects on energy tariff regulations in Thailand, implications of the Energy Industry Act for the Thai energy sector and research on Thai economic measures and policy on the energy crisis. Her research interests extend into the analysis of sectoral-level economic measures and policies on climate change. She is currently involved in a number of research projects and provides consultancy services in the area of energy economics, ICT economics, regulatory economics and climate change.   As a research fellow in Thailand, Puree led a study on business models for delivering mobile value-added services, which was a component of LIRNEasia‘s Mobile 2.0 research project.

Puree says her exposure at LIRNEasia has enriched her knowledge of the telecommunications sector and says this knowledge is relevant to her current work with Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

“The experiences and knowledge I gained from working at LIRNEasia has equipped and inspired me to work in the area of telecommunication and broadcasting regulation,” she says. “Currently I am a member of a subcommittee on Determination of License Fees and Price Structures in Broadcasting Services, under the NBTC of Thailand. The telecommunications sector knowledge I gained from LIRNEasia has come in useful in this context,” says Puree.
