Research Intern
Priyanwada is a final year undergraduate student reading for the Special Degree in Economics at the University of Colombo. She is carrying out her Internship Program at LIRNEasia. Prior to joining LIRNEasia, as part of the Internship requirement of her undergraduate studies in Economics, she has also worked as a research Intern for the Infrastructure Planning and Economic Practice Division at Nathan Associates, Washington DC, USA. She carried out this Internship Program, while participating at the Capital Semester Program in Fall 2007 at Georgetown University on a partial scholarship granted by The Fund for American Studies, Washington DC.
A research paper presented by Priyanwada at the 4th South Asian Economics Students’ Conference held in Colombo, February 23 24, 2007 has won the award for the Best Thematic and Country Paper under the theme Promoting Business Environment in South Asia. This paper titled “Policy Reforms in Sri Lanka: Did the Government Play its Facilitating Role?” is published as a Chapter in Ranasinghe, A. (ed), (2008): Perspectives of Future Economists in South Asia, University of Colombo. She has also made a research paper presentation on “Human Capital and Economic Growth: Experience of Sri Lanka” at the 3rd South Asian Economics Students’ Conference held in Dhaka in 2006.
