Lead Economist
Harsha de Silva is an economist with a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Having co-founded, built and sold Sri Lanka’s largest market research agency to The Nielsen Company, he now focuses on development issues in the emerging Asia region . Harsha’s primary interest is in economics of information and communication technology [ICT] in creating efficiencies in markets at the bottom of the pyramid. His secondary interest is on pro-poor pro-growth macroeconomic policy of Sri Lanka. Harsha has twenty years experience in development finance, economics of infrastructure and ICT, socioeconomic and market research, public policy and university-level teaching. In addition, Harsha plays a catalytic role in the debate on economic policy in Sri Lanka with his frequent public interventions and through his own television show. He was recently honored as a globally featured researcher of Canada’s International Development Research Centre and also awarded a Gates Foundation supported research grant by the IMTFI, University of California, Irvine. Harsha is deeply involved in management of Sahanaya – the National Council on Mental Health and is a dedicated Rotarian.
