Few developing countries have created workable conditions for competition in the mobile space; currently, frequencies, licensing regimes and regulatory actions/inactions constrain the rapid development of mobiles along the evolutionary path of becoming multi-purpose devices.
As such, part of LIRNEasia’s research on Mobile 2.0, will examine regulatory issues pertaining to:
- The issuance of licenses for service provision and frequencies
- Mobile number portability
- Frequency use
- The interface between telecom and banking regulation
