Upon being awarded a full scholarship, LIRNEasia researcher Tahani Iqbal has moved to Singapore to commence her graduate studies in public policy at the LKY School at the National University of Singapore. She joins Senior Researcher Sriganesh Lokanathan who is in his second year at the Lee Kuan Yew School. He was also awarded a full scholarship.

Rohan Samarajiva and Tahani Iqbal will participate at an International Workshop on ICTs and Development: Experiences in Asia, held at the Faculy of Arts and Sciences (Communications & New Media Programme Science, Technology and Society (STS) Cluster), National University of Singapore from 24th - 25th April 2008.
Samarajiva will chair a session, where papers will be presented on the Development of Web 2.0 and Social Networking Websites in Thailand, Internet Adoption and Usage among Farmers in China and the Use of ICTs in Rural India.
Iqbal will present a paper entitled, “Gender Inequalities in Access and Use of Telecom at the Bottom of the Pyramid?: Findings from a Five Country Study”, based on research findings from the Teleuse@BOP2 study.

Rohan Samarajiva will deliver the keynote speech at the 2nd BuzzCity-NUS Digitial Media Series, presented by the NUS Enterpreneurship Center Techno-Venture Forum on the 19th of October, 2007, at the NUS Business School, National University of Singapore. Entitled, ‘More than Voice at the Bottom of the Pyramid’, the presentation will be based on the Teleuse@ Bottom of The Pyramid (T@BOP) research conducted by LIRNEasia in five South and South-East Asian countries, and will examine the potential for the take-up of “more than voice” applications among the fast growing user populations in Socio-Economic Categories (SEC) D and E.
Presentations will also be made by Prof. Sam Ge, Chairman and Founding Director, Personal E-Motion Pte Ltd, and Ms. Aileen Sim, COO & Co-founder, First Meta Pte Ltd.

LIRNEasia’s maiden telecom reform course was successfully completed by 36 participants from 18 countries. The 10th telecom reform course was co-organised with LIRNE.NET, in association with the School of Communication and Information of Nanyang Technological University, and the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore. Themed ‘Catalyzing change: Strategies to achieve connectivity and convergence,’ the course took place at the Elizabeth Hotel in Singapore on the 24th-30th September 2005.
