<p style="text-align: justify;">Mobile 2.0 describes the next wave of applications and services – the use of mobiles for more than voice. On the 26<sup>th</sup> and 27<sup>th</sup> of April 2010, LIRNE<em>asia</em> together with the PTA co-hosted a successful expert forum in Islamabad, Pakistan. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Findings from LIRNEasia&#8217;s Mobile 2.0 study on <a href="http://lirneasia.net/projects/2008-2010/mobile20bop/vertical-aspects/m-government-services/">m-government services</a> has been published in <a href="http://lirneasia.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ET_Ahmedabad.jpg">India&#8217;s Economic Times, Ahmedabad</a>.  The research examines the potential for the supply of government services over the mobile through a case study of such a  system developed by Mumbai-based Zero Mass Foundation, that has proved popular in the country.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is one of the highly effective tools for achieving financial inclusion. But the system is suffering because of the lack of interest among government agencies. There needs to be a policy change to take the model further and make the system financially viable,&#8221; says IIM-A Professor and LIRNE<em>asia</em>&#8216;s Senior Research Fellow, <a href="http://lirneasia.net/about/profiles/sc-bhatnagar-phd/">Subhash Bhatnagar, PhD</a>.</p>
<p>The research is a part of a larger study conducted by LIRNE<em>asia</em> on the <a href="http://lirneasia.net/projects/2008-2010/mobile20bop/">use of mobiles for more-than-voice</a>.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A paper authored jointly by <a href="http://lirneasia.net/profiles/sc-bhatnagar-phd/">Professor Subhash Bhatnagar</a> and Nupur Singh titled &#8220;Results from a study of impact of eGovernment projects in India&#8221;, was selected as the Best Paper at <a href="http://www.ictd2009.org/">ICTD 2009</a> held recently in Doha.  Our warm congratulations to Professor Bhatnagar and his co-author.  </p>
<p>Subhash, who is leading the work on <a href="http://lirneasia.net/projects/2008-2010/mobile20bop/vertical-aspects/m-government-services/">one of our Mobile 2.0 components</a>, had a 20 minute one-on-one with the Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates.</p>
<p>ICTD 2009 was attended on a scholarship by <a href="http://lirneasia.net/profiles/nirmali-sivapragasam/">Nirmali Sivapragasam</a> of LIRNEasia.  <a href="http://lirneasia.net/profiles/nuwan-waidyanatha/">Nuwan Waidyanatha</a> also participated with a display table and got <a href="http://www.qnaol.net/QNAEn/Local_News/Misc/Pages/ICTD2009highlightsnewdevelopment232518042009.aspx">media coverage</a> as well.   </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>21 &#8211; 23 February 2008 at Kandalama Hotel, Kandalama, Sri Lanka</strong></p>
<p>LIRNE<em>asia</em> hosted a Workshop to discuss the policy level implications and business level possibilities of using ICTs to reduce transaction costs in the agricultural value chain as well as to improve traceability and enhance quality of products sold. The Workshop brought together key stakeholders consisting of policy makers, private and public sector participants and researchers, both in agriculture and ICT. It was based on the <a href="http://http://www.lirneasia.net/projects/current-projects/icts-transaction-costs-traceability/">pilot projects</a> conducted by LIRNE<em>asia</em> in 2007, which was discussed in detail at the Workshop.</p>
