Shaheen Cader headed Nielsen Sri Lanka till his retirement in August 2016. He joined Nielsen in 2006 as Research Director and was appointed as Managing Director in 2010. He has 24 years of experience in market and social research, and prior to joining Nielsen he worked at LMRB for 14 years where he was a Research Director. In addition, Shaheen has 11 years of work experience in banking and industry.
Academically, Shaheen has a BSc (Hons) degree in Science of Resources from the University of Birmingham, UK, and is a diploma holder in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK).
During his career in market research, Shaheen has been involved across a plethora of assignments in the consumer, business, social and retail spheres, constituting local and multinational entities as well as multilateral agencies.
In addition to Nielsen providing consultancy through client specific research studies across various product and service categories, Shaheen was successful in positioning Nielsen to be a significant provider of Sri Lankan consumer trends and insights to the broader business community. Shaheen’s views have also been sought at board level, by many of the leading corporates in Sri Lanka, across FMCG, Telecom and Banking sectors.
Shaheen has also been privileged to be closely involved with The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) in being able to speak at knowledge sharing forums. The LMD-Benchmark program also featured him on a regular basis during his period as Nielsen’s Managing Director. He has also been on SLIM’s Brand Excellence judging panels in 2010-11 and 2013-15.
