Dimuthu is a Junior Researcher for the Data, Algorithms and Policy team at LIRNEasia. She is currently involved in research projects on the ethics of artificial intelligence, and on developing artificial intelligence to curb misinformation.
Dimuthu has been a full-time journalist for some of the leading English publications in Sri Lanka, including the Sunday Observer, and Nation; she has explored features journalism, business journalism, and news journalism – has dabbled in health reporting, business reporting, data-driven journalism and music journalism, specialised in environment and wildlife journalism, and social issues reporting. She was one of the top 12 international young journalists shortlisted for the Thomson Foundation’s Young Journalist Award 2018, and received Environment Reporter of the Year 2018 – Merit Award from The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute, and is still an occasional journalist.
Dimuthu was also a Business Adviser to a multi-country programme promoting inclusive economic development via value chain interventions, and has also served a brief stint in sustainability and communications at a Colombo based office of the largest apparel manufacturer in South Asia. She holds a BSc in Economics and Finance from the University of London.
