LIRNEasia CEO Helani Galapaya and Chair Rohan Samarajiva participated in an online webinar on Social Safety Nets on 8 May 2022. Former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, A. R. Deshapriya was also on this panel organised by the National Movement of Social Justice, and moderated by Harindra B. Dissanayake.
Helani presented the findings of LIRNEasia’s research on cash transfers to vulnerable groups, drawing from the nationally representative surveys conducted in 2021, maps generated using GPS coordinates, secondary research and key informant interviews. She highlighted the need for a better system, with a special emphasis on the option of using mobile money and bank accounts as a means of delivering cash transfers.
