Helani Galpaya took part in a panel held (hybrid) at the 67th UN Commission on the Status of Women on 18 March 2023, which this year was focused on Digital Technology. The panel was titled Innovation for Women and Equality. It was convened by Amina Mohammed (UN Deputy Secretary General). The other panellists were Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi (Executive Director, Women Advocate Research & Documentation Center), Hoda Osman (Executive Editor, Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism), Valentina Munoz Rabanal (SDG Advocate and youth feminist activist) and was moderated by Annemarie Hou (Executive Director, UN Office for Partnerships).
Helani’s interventions drew from multiple LIRNEasia research projects that have she light on the challenges of ensuring meaningful connectivity for women in Asia. A link to the panel recording can be found here.
Helani was also part of the CSW67 Expert Group that came together in 2022 September to bring together current knowledge and recommendations on the topic. Helani and Ayesha Zainudeen (Senior Research Manager, LIRNEasia) also produce a short paper for the Expert Group, titled Gender and Digital Access Gaps and Barriers in Asia: But What About After Access?
