Dr. Nirmita Narasimhan is Senior Fellow and Programme Director with the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICT and Programme Director, Saksham. She serves as chairperson of the Committee on the inclusion of persons with disabilities at the Broadband India Forum and has also been part of key government committees relating to accessibility policy and standards in India over the past decade. Nirmita was a founding member of the Bangalore-based not-for-profit research organization Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), where she built up the Accessibility and Inclusion program on digital accessibility, which gained significant recognition within India and internationally. A globally reputed accessibility advocate, she has worked with governments in India and abroad and intergovernmental organizations to bring accessibility into policies and programs. She has worked with global organizations like G3ict, UNICEF, and ITU to author several reports on accessibility, which are being used by policymakers worldwide. Nirmita has received many awards for her work, including the National award from the president of India in 2010. Her educational background includes degrees in Law, German, and Music.
