BeePeeO Data Solutions: Translation, Transcription & Proofreading Services
BeePeeO Data Solutions is a socially motivated BPO service provider promoting a pro-nature, pro-poor, pro-women and pro-sustainable livelihood paradigm of technology development and dissemination by leveraging cutting-edge technology and flexible business process knowledge to set up delivery centers in rural areas.
We bridge the ‘Digital Divide’ by making local Sri Lankan talent accessible to international companies, offering highly competitive rates and fast turnaround. It is a ‘win-win’ proposition where companies obtain quick, cost-effective data and language services, while qualified talent in Sri Lanka finds employment without having to migrate to cities or overseas.
BeePeeO Data Solutions is a joint venture of a network of rural Telecentres (Nanasalas) in Sri Lanka led by Koslanda Nanasala and Glenanore Nanasala sponsored by the Information & Communications Technology Agency (ICTA) and Sri Lanka Children’s Trust national voluntary service organization.

This is very nice to hear. Crongatulations all involved in this. If the BPO is properly established and maintained there will be a good future for rural youths and Nenasalas will be versatile. It would be great if we get more reports from this new venture.

As I understand from yesterday’s Sunday Times http://www.sundaytimes.lk/071202/Plus/plus00011.html the people behind this are Sri Kanth and his family of Koslanda.
I had the privilege of teaching Sri Kanth and his brother Chandra Kanth during a Nenasala operator training sometime back and I am delighted about this achievement.
Village youth like Sri Kanth with entrepreneurial skills should be handpicked, trained and given responsibilities to manage rural level ITES business ventures. Success of Sri Kanth shows he was one of the ideal candidate to run a Nenasala, and I am sure he was one of the few selected through the proper interview process in the beginning of the Nenasala programme. This process has picked up the very best leaving out those are incompetent but still want to get in using their political connections. It is a pity that this selection process of Nenasala operators was not adhered always. Had it been we could have seen many more success stories like this by now.
There is a huge difference between letting business minded competent individuals running the village level initiatives and giving the task to political henchmen, with religious backgrounds or otherwise, purely on political connections just like offering bar licenses. Sri Kanth could never have got this opportunity if he too were selected based on political connections.
Nenasala model is often critisised for its possible unsustainability, but Sri Kanth has proved that need not apply to ever case. He has gone the extra mile to make sure the venture will not be over the moment the donor money runs out.
While congratulation Sri Kanth and his family on this venture, I emphasise the need to free ICT from party politics and selection of Nenasala operators purely on their entrepreneurial skills and not on political connections.
Can Copyright Law still serve the public interest in the age of AI?
The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence is reshaping debates around copyright, accessibility, and innovation. In a recent article published in The Hindu, Pranesh Prakash, Co-Principal Investigator for LIRNEasia’s D4D Asia Project, discusses how copyright law must adapt to the realities of AI-driven technologies in a way that balances creators’ rights with the public interest.

LIRNEasia expertise contributes to Sri Lanka’s first National Policy on Archives and Records Management
Archives and records management is a critical foundation of any society, but especially in information societies that are emerging now. Unfortunately, this subject tends to be neglected.
