Ashwini is a Research Fellow at LIRNEasia focusing on issues related to data protection, data governance, AI ethics, and the use of data for public good. A lawyer by training, she has experience in regulatory, litigation, and corporate work. Currently, she is a Consultant at Julius & Creasy for Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) law. Ashwini also undertakes independent projects related to online safety, data protection, AI governance, and the right to information.
She is a Director on the Board of a leading non-banking financial institution, LB Finance PLC, and was part of the Responsible AI sub-committee tasked with drafting Sri Lanka’s National AI Strategy. She is a member of the recently launched Digital Trust Alliance. She has previously worked at the Madras High Court with Senior Counsel Mr. P. Wilson, Former Additional Advocate General of Tamil Nadu and the Additional Solicitor General of India.
Last year, she was selected for the Media Policy Institute at the University of Oxford and is a former Fellow of the Internet Law and Policy Foundry. She holds an LL.M (Master of Laws) from the National University of Singapore and has completed various certifications, fellowships, and programmes including in AI policy, AI governance, mediation, and arbitration.
