Nirosha Nissanka has been serving as a training consultant to the Human Capital Development (HCD) Program at LIRNEasia since 2008.

Nirosha has extensive experience in training and capacity building at various organizations in the public and private sector. After initiating her career in training in 1998 as a lecturer and academic coordinator in the Sri Lanka Institute of Advance Technical Education (SLIATE), she moved on to become the Education extension officer in the  “Back to Business” Project under Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries in SL (FCCISL), training manager at “Burns” waste management company, project officer at the National Ozone Unit governed by Montreal protocol, and project officer at  Pilisaru” National Solid Waste Management Project at the Central environmental Authority.

As a consultant to the HCD program at LIRNEasia, Nirosha was the driving force behind LIRNEasia’s success in working with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to identify municipal solid waste management (SWM) as a vocation and develop National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) for the sector. She served as the coordinator and a panellist in the process that led to the development of competency standard, curriculum, assessment and training materials for NVQ level 2 and NVQ level 4 in SWM. She was also able to rally 19 solid waste managers and professionals from across the country for training and certification by TVEC as assessors.  According to TVEC sources between 2009-2013 over 600 municipal labours have worked towards ‘solid Waste Operation Assistant” Level 2 qualification gaining significant knowledge in the subject and better recognition for their work.

Nirosha’s consultancies with  LIRNEasia also included the report on the topic “Value Chain Development in SWM : Promoting Green jobs in Sri Lanka” prepared for ILO.
