According to this report, they are not. It will be appreciated if those with first-hand knowledge report on whether this report is correct and whether the mobile network in the North is operational.
The entire mobile telephone network has even been shut down to stop the rebels using phones for communications or detonating one of their favoured weapons — huge roadside bombs packed with ball bearings.

a month ago some folk in Ampara said mobiles and CDMA phones in both the N and E had been down for three weeks… well at least when i was there for a couple of days both networks were down

curious that the lbo report say ‘entire network’ and you narrow it down to ‘east’, may be you should narrow it down further to arrive at truth . i know it all looks the same from colombo but if you ever go there you will see that ‘east’ is a big place.
trinco was working last week. i was there.
however you are certainly wise to check the facts in a news report that says among other things – “Vakarai is now a ghost town, with many of its buildings flattened by government shelling”. which is certainly not the case. ‘reporter’ must have been one of those who come from the same place as those ‘reporters’ who parroted ltte propaganda that vakarai hospital was shelled during the battle, when it was not.
esp wise in light of your earlier parroting of fmm statement about a bogus ‘internet blocking ‘ in jaffna.
