Haran is a Research Fellow attached to LIRNEasia. His interests are mainly Inclusive development, Shared Economy and Financial Inclusion.
Haran works on NTT funded research and capacity development program on “Reconciliation through economic opportunity”, which aims to improve inclusive and accessible markets, value and supply chains for local/marginalized communities and expanding their economic opportunities.
He previously worked at LIRNEasia, managing a component of IDRC funded research titled “Inclusion in business process outsourcing”. The objective of this study was to uncover the opportunities for under-employed youth, women and previously- excluded persons participating in micro-work platforms in Sri Lanka, India and Myanmar. Haran was involved in conducting statistical analysis & insight generation for a research study funded by IDRC on Myanmar, “Towards the Networked Economy”. He involved in a study by PUCSL to understand the use of electricity in relation to planned policy outputs and outcomes in Sri Lanka.
Haran has over 8 years of research experience in managing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research on various consumer groups. Following his work at LIRNEasia, he founded Sparkwinn Research, a market research agency specializing in understanding consumer opinion. He was previously a Research Manager, Consumer Insights at Nielsen and a Senior Business Analyst at MTI consulting. His business expertise extends to cover different sectors including FMCG, B2B, Industrial and Education.
Haran holds a Masters in Economics from University of Colombo. His bachelor’s degree in Business Administration is also from University of Colombo. Haran holds a CIM Postgraduate diploma in marketing.
