The war against porn continues – at full throttle. We are just twelve kilo meters away from porn-free net. Stay tuned. You may hear the good news anytime.
Meanwhile ‘National Child Protection Authority of Sri Lanka’, which claims keeping an eye on your child even when you are sleeping, wants to keep an eye on your mobile too. According to what Lakbima published today, you are not supposed to receive any porn material through SMS (sic – guess this should be MMS) or host any porn sites in your mobile. (We did not even know this was possible. All these days we thought websites are hosted on high capacity web servers, not on mobile phones. Guess this will not be good news for the server manufacturers.)
So if you host any porn site in your mobile please delete is before the Child Protection Authority does the honours for you. They are certainly not alone. The technical expertise and financial support comes from Dialog Telekom, who will provide a dedicated number so that the users can inform if they receive any pornographic material via SMS MMS (or about any porn sites they host in mobiles).
Our sympathises are always with the poor Sri Lankan bureaucrats, to whom life has become nightmarish ever since the boost in mobile usage. It is not an easy task introducing new policies on monthly basis to fight the negative impact of mobiles. The trouble you take to protect us from this little polluter of environment and minds is magnanimous and we will never forget that!

This will make a desperate sociaty with loads of desperate people. A stupid move by a minority of stupid rulers :)
mmm
Wow. So stupid. More poor girls will be victimized by old and deranged pedophiles and sex addicts by what these guys do. Its good to have control over sex workers and have them medically tested and educated because we need to control AIDS and other STDs. But banning these industries outright is just begging for more madness. And we all know the top guys do and get everything from 16yr olds to 100. mad hypocrites.
jack

I guess this truly qualifies one for a job at Airtel: not only applying on someone else’s website, but getting the post wrong.
Or I may be wrong. Mr Almeida may be seeking a job in mobile pornography. Especially one that involves hosting porn on mobiles.

What can i say, yes it is needed to keep the minors away from sexually explicit materials as well as violence, government is only focusing on sexually explicit idea, but what is more dangerous is violence. look at the amount of violence, domestic violence that is shown in tv channels. government should bring down some sort of law especially on those unrated indian movies and dramas. They are not rated about their violence and freely shown on television channels.
It’s a good move, but applied in a stupid way. ban children from using fully functional phones at all. that’s a good move, only kids phones purchased by a parent can be used by a child. do something like that rather than trying to check everyones mobile phones. that’s bullshit, good idea, but not practical in the way it is applied.
Kids = only kids phones given by parents
End of the story.
It’s not the disease that we need to cure, what is needed is to kill germ that causes the disease.

I think what the authorities’ decision to ban porn is pretty lame. For one thing it is not at all feasible to ‘block’ porn sites since sites which facilitates accessing blocked sites turn up faster than the rate they themselves get blocked. Therefore though it seems that the authorities have blocked porn for good there are actually many ways to maneuver around these idiotic gimmicks.
As for the guy called Jack i suggest he change his name to ‘jackass’ from his next post onwards. Anyway free speech is still preserved to some extent in sri lanka so i wont make further comments about his ignorance and retardedness. OOps sorry did i just call him a retard? my bad….sorry……retard..
It is known and in fact proven over a number of times that there exists a direct relationship between the crime rate(i.e sex offenses) and the inability to release the sexual pressure. The most common way for the public in sri lanka to satisfy its sexual urges is by pornographic content especially internet porn. Suppose the authorities do manage to somehow block porn. Then it is needless to say that the number of sexually deprived citizens would rise exponentially over time which would again result in an unusual growth in sex offenses. Ever wondered why people push their genitals into other people’s bodies in the public transportation system? that is because they are so desperate. In fact as Prof. A.B.C. John of University of Mahazona once said, there should be a healthy number of healthy sex workers in a country in order to the public to function with maximum efficiency.
Other than that in most societies it is an accepted form of sexual behavior to masturbate over internet porn. therefore i really think we should be spared the right to masturbate over a nice porn clip
Jeromix
Well..
Do the Authorities beleive that by Blocking websites alone can Stop POrn flowing in to the Country?. How Practical is the Move?
But isnt it the right of a person to see and hear what a person wants?
How Ethical isa trhe Move?
Satan
may be what they are trying to do is develop the industry within sri lanka…. a in like increasing the taxes for vehicles??? lol
Porn Lover
Oh.. dear, where will i go now? What will i do? Any alternatives please? How about live sessions at Gall face for a change?
Fuckwits.
Only in Srilanka do you hear such nonsense. For the record, technology has gone way beyond controllable limits. People who want it will anyway have it. Its that simple. When you put a ban on cigarettes, then people have access to smuggled cigarettes. Similar logic applies here.
People like me, the Proud Porn Lovers will anyway watch it. Aney Meyala.. Please someone tell them Aney.. Stupidity has no limits in Srilanka. That’s an irony.
Let’s hail Porn. Long Live Porn !!

Well then the first step would be to close down the brothels that belong to all the MPs and other political leaders…. WHICH WILL NEVER BE DONE!….Clubs, Karaoke…. ecstasy pills…drugs….c’mon people…. Sri Lanka is spoiled over the limits…If SL is to take a new leaf then its time to put the lid on all the bars, brothels, clubs, and other what not places around the SO-CALLED-GLORIOUS CAPITAL – COLOMBO initially.
In western countries…at the end of a busy day, people go to the club to chill out and put out the steam….our mutts follow suit and all what they manage to do is burn their parents’ cash in one night…
SL is so corrupted….I pity on the guys more than the girls at this day and age….I’m not pointing fingers…but geeeze….
May who ever lives up there shed their sight upon this land….may the small amount of people who have brains try to lift up this country….work the sweat off their brows to establish this country to its former glory..in a day and age where all the brains are constantly immigrating to other countries….all i ask is….SRILANKAN’s HAVE A HEART….IF YOU HAVE ONE DROP OF SRILANKAN BLOOD IN YOU…IF U EVER HAVE HAD A SIP OF GOLDEN MILK FROM THE BREAST OF A SRILANKAN MOTHER….IF YOU EVER ENJOYED THE WIND OVER YOUR HAIR…IF YOU EVER ENJOYED THE SHADE OF A COCONUT TREE….IF U EVER LOOKED UP AT THE SKY AT NIGHT ON A POYA DAY AND GLIMPSE THE PEOPLE DRESSED IN WHITE WALK TO THE TEMPLE…HEARD THE SINHALA PSALMS IN A CHURCH MASS, SMELLED THE INCENSE AT THE KOVIL… EVER GONE OUT ON A WESAK DAY AND EATEN OFF A DANSALA…..DROVE 5 HOURS OUT OF THE SIZZLING CAPITAL TO THE COLD MOUNTAINS….ALL YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN….this IS HEAVEN….RIGHT WHERE WE LIVE….ITS JUST THE ATTITUDE THAT COUNTS….
Nalaka Gunawardene
I have some questions what worry me, and perhaps one of your readers can provide reliable answers.
1. What is the age definition of a child in Sri Lanka? From birth to 18? 21? 25? 35? Or 70? The way our Nanny State is treating everyone as if we were all children, I would really like to know.
2. What is the legally accepted definition of pornography in Sri Lanka? Is it limited to still or moving images only? Or is sexually explicit writing also considered pornographic? Is that is the case, what would the authorities propose to do about books from Kama Sutra to (Gunadasa Amarasekera’s) Karumakkarayo?
3. Is going topless considered pornographic in this Land Like No Other? In which case, what would be the fate of Sigiriya apsaras (all of who are explicitly topless), and some illustrations in historical texts including the book by Robert Knox?

@Nalaka Gunawardene
Point No.3 is a good one…perhaps we should go and re-paint those pictures in such a way that they would look more like ghosts…every single part of their body covered.
Frankly, I fail to understand why porn is being shunned like this. Correct me if I am wrong, but porn videos involve showing 2 (or even more in a number of cases) people having sex with each other, often using a variety of techniques.
I don’t advocate showing it in the open, but I don’t see any reason why they should be completely banned. Frankly, I got my first dose of porn when I happened to find some porn videos in an internet cafe. Ever since then, I seem less excited about sex or about bumping into another woman in a bus or anywhere because all the ‘hype’ associated with sex just vanished.
However, like sarath says, most of the people you see doing all sorts of stupid things like bumping into girls or raping other women are people who don’t know much about sex or think that it is a big deal.
I wish the authorities would just grow up and realize that porn is part and parcel of life…banning it will just make the situation worse…
It’s just like the classic example of how the states in the US which have imposed the death penalty have a higher crime rate than ones which don’t! Excessive control leads to excessive bad effects!
Ren
These decisions should be taken by sociologists than politicians. Sociologists will be better decision-makers in such sensitive issues.

I remember while ago there was a rumor about govt going to charge for people viewing internet porn. Could this be a part of a master plan to earn some bucks for brotherhood.
Whats wrong with shame
Whats wrong with banning Porn? whats wrong with being content with the partner and not looking beyond the boundry? Remember the West was even greater when there was shame in the society. Stop copying West in everything Bad and only imitate what is good if we want to be succuessfull. Long Live Srilanka…
Burning Puma
To Naalaka Gunavardana’s 3’rd Point: Siigiri Pictures depict beauty and not eroticism, there’s a big difference. Nevertheless, you are blinded by politics it seems, so there’s no damn use in talking.
And all you other guys in favour of porn, what I say is shit now to you, but I don’t give a damn, PornoGraphy does not satisfy, it may satisfy you for the while, but give me the reason why you keep going back for more?
This damn vermin that’s distorting our very society has to be done with, I really agree with “Paethum” and “What’s Wrong WIth Shame?”. Those of you that are blaming something on the government, all you can do is blabber. If you really care for your rights, stand up and fight instead of giving us a headache.
Those of you talking about rights, all you are thinking about is your rights, not the ones you get erections on. A person is priceless, all this porn stuff is distorting your and THEIR minds into thinking that they’re nothing other than Objects Of Sexual Satisfaction, you would’nt agree, but it hits your subconscious.
For Sarath, I Don’t Know Who Your Professor Is But He Sure Is A Jew, Are You Saying That Women Have to spend the rest of their lives as sex workers and then get discarded after they’ve lost everything they had when they were young, is that how you make them worth after putting them in that state.
mmm and Sahan K what you say is true, but rape seems to be better when you’re looking at a lifetime of sleeping with men in front of a camera. And the question, is who created this situation? We are at a high technological stage, and on the advent of another that will make us one with computers. If we don’t try and stop it now, it’s gonna get worse, until we can’t control it. AND ARE YOU FUCKING SAYING THAT WE NEED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY TO SATISFY PAEDOPHILES???
Those of you who say that blocking porn is impossible, I myself spent 17 years in a Middle Eastern Country, if you try to access a pornography site more than three times, they get your IP, and your location and come to beat the daylights out of you.
For those of you who are interested:
See the Indian Film (Kalyug 200*), then if you’re sane, you might understand.
For Those Of You Saying Something About The Government, Look At The Topic, instead of pointing fingers, appreciate what they are trying to do, a good lot have died or have been made amputees for you un-greatful morons. If it was’nt for this government, they’d be dead too.
I can’t write anymore, for anyone who was offended, sorry, but I’am seriously pissed with Jews (if you did’nt know Pornography is a Jewish thing, and Jews marry their own mothers)
