Regulatory experience sharing in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar

Myanmar is one of the great success stories in telecom reform. When the government set the target of 80 SIMs/100 within five years back in 2013, many people doubted it could be done. But it has been done and exceeded. Myanmar’s smartphone penetration is now similar to that of the United States.

One shortcoming was the establishment of the independent regulatory body within two years, as promised in the Law of 2013. But now the draft is making its way to the legislature.

I informed the Ministry that we had five former regulators coming to Myanmar as part of the CPRsouth conference and offered to organize an experience-sharing event.

That event will take place September 4-6 in Nay Pyi Taw. The program is here.
