LIRNEasia Chair, Rohan Samarajiva and I  attended the first drafting group meeting for developing the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Action Plan 2022-2026 on 25 May. The meeting was convened by UNESCAP, and chaired by Mohamed Shareef, Maldives’ newly appointed State Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.

We participated in the meeting as we had worked (and continue to work) with the UNESCAP team to draft the Action Plan. Prof. Samarajiva co-presented the draft Action Plan to the representatives of the Member States at the meeting. Tiziana Bonapace, Director of the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of UNESCAP noted the longstanding collaborative partnership between LIRNEasia and UNESCAP in her introductory remarks .
