Pirongrong Ramasoota, Senior Research Fellow has been confirmed by the Senate of Thailand to serve as a member of the seven-member Board of the National Broadcasting & Telecommunications Commission, the regulatory body responsible for spectrum, telecom and electronic broadcasting.

Pirongrong served on the Board of Communication Policy Research south (CPRsouth) for many years including a term as Vice Chair. CPRsouth was, from 2007 to 2018, LIRNEasia’s principal vehicle for capacity building, giving primacy to the skill sets and attitudes necessary to take research to the policy process. Our Board members have included several former regulators. This is the first time a Board Member has been appointed. We like to think that her work with LIRNEasia and with CPRsouth made a contribution to her appointment through a rigorous process.

A scholar who has given weight both to the conduct of well-designed research and to taking research findings to the policy process, Pirongrong exemplifies the kind of policy intellectual LIRNEasia was seeking to develop through CPRsouth. We wish her the very best in her work at the NBTC.
