Sukitha Bandaranayake

Sukitha was a Researcher at LIRNEasia. He holds an MA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, with a specialization in social science research methods. He also holds a BA in Political Science (Honours with Distinction, 2021) from the same university. Prior to his MA, Sukitha worked as a Junior Researcher at LIRNEasia (2022–2023), contributing to projects on election misinformation, social safety nets, data for the SDGs, and digital government. He also served as a Research Executive at Kantar from 2021 to 2022.

Shenali Bamaramannage

Shenali is a former researcher at LIRNEasia, where her work focused on the intersection of technology, economic growth, and sustainability. She holds a BSc (Honours) in Economics from the University of London. Prior to her time at LIRNEasia, Shenali worked in the finance departments of MAS Holdings, a leading apparel manufacturer in Sri Lanka, and :Different, a property management start-up based in New South Wales. She also had a brief stint as a freelance journalist for the Daily FT, and later joined the research and communications teams at the Advocata Institute.

Vihanga Jayawickrama

Vihanga Jayawickrama worked at LIRNEasia as a Junior Researcher between May and December of 2022. She was a part of the Data, Algorithms and Policy team. Her research interests include machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. She first joined LIRNEasia during the internship period associated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Moratuwa. Upon completing the degree, she rejoined LIRNEasia to pursue her research interests further.

Imaad Muwahid

Imaad worked at LIRNEasia as a research intern from September 2021 until July 2022. At LIRNEasia he worked on various projects which involved the digital divide and connectivity, developments in the labor market, private sector investments related to the Sustainable Development Goals, and literature reviews related to cash transfer programs and the impact of Covid-19 on gender equality. He conducted extensive secondary research and contributed to its synthesis for the relevant projects. He also moderated and co-moderated key informant interviews with local and regional experts, regulators, etc. He  co-authored, contributed, and assisted in preparing reports and final project outputs.

Anha Adhlee

Anha worked at LIRNEasia as a Research Intern in August 2021 for approximately one year, to gain experience in research. While at LIRNEasia she worked on multiple research projects. She previously worked at the Research Intelligence Unit (RIU) as a Research Intern in 2020. She holds a BSc in Mathematics and Economics from the University of London. She left LIRNEasia in 2022 to pursue further studies in the UK.

Ruwanka De Silva

Ruwanka worked at LIRNEasia as a Junior Researcher from January 2021 to mid-2022. At LIRNEasia she worked on several qualitative and quantitative research projects. She holds a BSc in Economics and Management from the University of London and is presently working on completing CIMA Management Level.

Milindu Tissera

Milindu Tissera worked at LIRNEasia as a Communications Specialist form 2021-2022. Before joining us, he worked as an Executive Communications and Administration for the Social Entrepreneurship Project at John Keells Holdings PLC. He has also worked at Environmental Foundation Limited and Dilmah Conservation since 2013. Milindu has Bachelor of Environmental Science Degree from the University of Adelaide.  

Dimuthu Attanayake

Dimuthu worked at LIRNEasia as a Junior Researcher for the Data, Algorithms and Policy team between 2020 and 2021. At LIRNEasia she was involved in research on the generation of synthetic data from CDR datasets, as well as in the analysis of Chinese Cyber Policy. She also worked on projects on the ethics of artificial intelligence, and on developing artificial intelligence to curb misinformation, where she used Natural Language Processing techniques for building machine learning algorithms to classify fake news. She was also involved in the building of the Sinhala news corpus. Dimuthu has been a full-time English journalist in Sri Lanka; she was one of the top 12 international journalists shortlisted for the Thomson Foundation’s Young Journalist Award 2018.

Wangay Dorji

Wangay Dorji was a Policy Fellow at LIRNEasia. He is the Chief of Market and Compliance with the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA), ICT and Media regulatory in the Kingdom of Bhutan. He has more than twenty (20) years of experience in the field of ICT and Media regulation and policy. He was the lead expert involved with the introduction of second mobile operator and had implemented four phases of the rural communications programme through the use of Universal Service Fund. Currently, he is working on the enhancement of Mobile Quality of Service (QoS) and ICT infrastructure to promote the digital economy in Bhutan.

Gayashi Jayasinghe

Gayashi worked as a Researcher at LIRNEasia between 2020 and 2022. Her research focused on persons with disabilities and assistive technologies. The research she was involved in aimed to influence policy on independent living of persons with disabilities while promoting the use of digital/mobile technologies to improve social inclusion of marginalised communities.  She also worked on public utilities policy and regulation in Sri Lanka to develop a policy framework for the water services sector of the country. Additionally, she was engaged in researching information disorder in APAC.

Ramathi Bandaranayake

Ramathi worked at LIRNEasia from 2019 t0 2022 as a Senior Researcher at LIRNEasia. Her core focus was on the ethics of technology and science. She researched the ethics of data and artificial intelligence in the Asia Pacific, and how ethical principles may be implemented in policy. She also studied responses to health emergencies, including how health information and related data are collected and used by public health systems as part of epidemic response, as well as RCCE (Risk Communication and Community Engagement) during epidemics. Additionally, she was involved in LIRNEasia’s research on platform work, with a focus on the experiences of female platform workers.

Vipulakshi Fernando

Vipulakshi assisted Prashanthi Weragoda and Priyadarshani Liyanage in all finance-related functions at LIRNEasia. She has previously held positions at Ernst and Young and Aitken Spence (Pvt.) Ltd.  While at Ernst and Young, Vipulakshi was attached to the Business Risk Services division where she was responsible for planning, performing, coordinating and reviewing assignments among several companies in both manufacturing and service sectors.
As a project assistant for the Knowledge to Innovation project at LIRNEasia, Thiruchenduran worked with local authorities in Sri Lanka in building a network of stakeholders with resources to educate and implement the program through the network. Thiru is currently involved in what he calls “Investing for Impact, in Retail Marketing,” in the city of Negombo, Sri Lanka. The concept refers to investing in the retail and marketing sector, for maximum impact on local communities.  In Thiru’s case he has applied the concept to the ready-to-eat-food (RTE) retail sector in Negombo,  by developing a network of community kitchens that supply breakfast and lunch to the market, through a network of retail outlets. “My supply network is made up of a number of community kitchens, where women from low income families prepare traditional, home cooked breakfasts and lunch packets.
Tilan, at LIRNEasia, conducted a survey of production of graduates by private and public Higher Education Institutes (HEI) and a ranking survey of HEIs that offer ICT degrees. In addition, he was involved in a literature review pertaining to information sources used by industries as they innovate and how the sources of information vary with the organizational attributes such as size of the firm, type of business, sector, location, etc. All these projects were done under the supervision of Dr. Sujatha Gamage, a lead scientist at LIRNEasia. Previously, he worked as a research intern at the Economic Affairs Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sri Lanka.
As a research fellow in India, Subhash led a study on the provision of government services over the mobile phone in India, a part of LIRNEasia‘s Mobile 2.0 research project. Prof. Bhatnagar is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Sumudu Pagoda

Sumudu was responsible for all administrative functions at LIRNEasia, and assists both the Executive Director and Head of Finance in related duties . Organizing meetings with ministerial officials, as well as organizing seminars and other public events are the core duties that she carried out. Sumudu started her career in 1998 as a Cadet Officer, later serving as a Pilot Officer in the Sri Lanka Air Force. She is currently working as the Director Operations at Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka. Sumudu holds a Master’s in Business Administration.
